Cultural / Linguistic Adventures
Come to Barcelona - an excellent destination for
people of all ages to enjoy. Situated directly on the
Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona as a cosmopolitan
city is full of cultural venues like museums, theaters
and cinemas, extensive nightlife and leisurely
activities. Barcelona is the home of FC Barcelona
and Camp Nou, the largest stadium in Europe with
a capacity of 100,000, and the city provides the
venue for a wide range of other world-class and
local sports. It is a blend of modern and medieval,
progress and traditionalism, all while remaining
typically Mediterranean. With the sea as our front
yard, extreme temperatures throughout the year
are mitigated by ocean breezes. The diverse range
of commerce and industry present in this region of
Spain make it an excellent place for work, study,
rest, play and intercultural exchange.
Barcelona is recognised as a global city becauseof its importance in finance, commerce, media,
entertainment, the arts and international trade. It has become a hub of innovation in Spain, in
Europe, in the Mediterranean region, and in the world, occupying a high ranking in the Innovation
Cities™ Global 256 Index. Barcelona´s public-private partnerships support strategies that promote
entrepreneurial enterprises, business growth and development, professional opportunities and job
creation.
Barcelona counts on one of the very best public transportation systems in the world. Clean, efficient
and relatively inexpensive, the underground, public buses, trains and light rail join together to
connect almost any point of the metropolitan area, making it a touring-friendly destination. Barcelona
is the most popular destination in Spain and the third most visited area in Europe. We are serviced
by three airports, including El Prat - the largest hub in the Mediterranean region - along with a series
of efficient motorways linking the region with our neighbors in other areas of Spain, France and
Andorra. We are on the sea, where plenty of water-based sports such as wind surfing, snorkeling and
yachting are plentiful, and leisure activity such as sun bathing, beach combing and restaurant hopping
beckon the soul.
Barcelona's cultural roots go back 2000 years, and there was a time when this region of Spain was
a prominent kingdom that had conquered many overseas possessions, ruling the western Mediterranean Sea with outlying territories in Naples
and Sicily and as far as Athens. The region has a rich history of industrialization and prosperous commerce and trade. Barcelona is a bilingual
city: Catalan and Spanish are both official languages and widely spoken.
While the bulk of programming organized by MS Barcelona is aimed at training activities, we also have a long history of supporting projects
that enhance linguistic achievements and cultural interactions. These activities include vacation learning programmes for high school students,
language training and study abroad courses for college students, and travel adventures for adults. Visit our sister organization Sunseeker
Adventures (www.sunseekeradventures.com) for more details on discovery travel opportunities.
